Vaginismus describes the inability to tolerate vaginal entrance of any kind. Women with this condition cannot have vaginal intercourse, they often have difficulty tolerating an examination by a gynecologist, and many cannot comfortably insert a tampon or even their own finger without anxiety and discomfort.

This is a relatively easily remedied condition, unlearned through behavioral treatment with the use of a vaginal dilator and relaxation exercises as homework assignments. Once women advance to a dilator the size of a normal penis, the transition to vaginal intercourse can easily be made.
